Easy Snow Ice Cream Recipe

This snow ice cream recipe is quick and easy, made with 3 easy ingredients: fresh snow, sweetened condensed milk, and vanilla. Rich, creamy variety and lots of flavor!

This timeless, old-fashioned, and simple snow ice cream recipe is great to make with kids for snowy days! They're just as fun to make since this Snowman Ice Cream Cone.

If you live in a place where there is a lot of snow during Winter, this will make a really quick snack or dessert that you will get creative with. My favorite way to enjoy it is to use chocolate chips but the kids love it using sprinkles.

What is snow ice cream?

It's ice cream made from snow (and 3 other essential components)! It is traditionally Southern medicine and I grew up eating it as a child after a big snow storm. Summer afternoons will have a lot more fun when you buy this cool and sweet treat.

How to make snow ice cream?

Mix together milk, snow, vanilla extract until thick and creamy. Finish with a sprinkle and you're done.

Can I use milk to make ice cream?

I don't recommend it because it is not as thick and creamy as sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, heavy cream / whipped cream, coconut milk, coconut cream or half and half.

Is it safe to make snow ice cream?

Yes, it's usually safe to eat snow, but you'll want to be sure of fresh snow, usually right after a blizzard. Make sure it's a bright white - whether it's been colored at all, then contaminated with dirt, creatures, or something else.

Tips for making snow ice cream

  • You need to work fast to prevent the snow from melting.
  • After trying several types of milk, I came to the conclusion that sweetened condensed milk produces the best results and that you also don't need to add added sugar.
  • For chocolate flavor, add 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder and add 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips. Don't use regular chocolate chips as they are too large.
  • To get a different taste, replace the vanilla infusion with any other extract that you like.
  • You can also add food coloring to make colorful rainbow ice cream.
  • The taste of snow varies from place to place, which can determine how much milk to add.
  • Stir in chopped fresh fruit (strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberry peaches) or nuts to receive this dessert on top.
  • If you freeze leftovers, they become solid rock. Therefore, it is possible to thaw it by heating in the microwave for 15-20 seconds or by letting it thaw at room temperature for about 20 minutes until it softens.
  • You may believe that adding milk causes the snow to melt. But that didn't happen.
  • I haven't tried it yet but if there's no snow you can still make this recipe using shaved ice.
