What is chicken bang bang?

You may be wondering what bang bang chicken really is, and to my knowledge, this is a snack traditionally served in China by street vendors. Usually, cooked chicken is served cold with spicy sauce. Apparently the recipe is called chicken bang bang because the stick used to hammer the cleaver knife loosens the chicken fibers to shred them.

Even so, this chicken is not sliced but cut into small pieces and please cut it as big or small as you like. The chicken is then doused with buttermilk dough seasoned with paprika, garlic powder, salt, pepper and a little hot sauce, then dredged through some Panko breadcrumbs.

Best Way to Make Bang Bang Chicken

Step 1: Clean, dry and cut the breast milk of the chicken (you can also use thigh meat)

Step2: In a mixing bowl, then add ingredients to make a wok batter.

Step3: Heat the oil about 2 inches (enough to cover the chicken pieces). Add the chicken to the mixture and mix well to coat the chicken.

Step4: When the oil is hot enough, then coat each side of the pan and add the oil gradually, frying over medium heat until the chicken is cooked well. Drain on kitchen paper.

Step5: Then make Bang Bang Sauce, for that in a mixing bowl, then add the ingredients to the sauce and mix well to combine. Enjoy!

Tips for Making Bang Bang Chicken Recipes

  • The chicken pieces need to be dry so that the dough sticks to them.
  • Make sure the oil doesn't start to emit its cold smoke. Put a little chicken in the oil and see if it has sunk then the oil is still cold. When there is smoked oil, turn the heat down to let the oil cool slightly or the chicken will burn.
  • Roast the chicken continuously to get enough room in the pan to fry it properly.
  • If you don't feel like grilling chicken then roast chicken pieces to make bang roast chicken.
  • To make oven roasted bang bang chicken, arrange the panko-coated chicken pieces on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake at 375 for 20 minutes then turn the chicken pieces on the other side after 10 minutes. Check to see if the chicken is well done or grilled again.
